The Indian Premier League is set to become a ten-team tournament with the inclusion of two new teams. While eight IPL teams have already revealed their retained list and are obliged by law, Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be able to pick three players each from a pool of non-retained talent before they're auctioned off during pre season auctions next year 2022!

The two new IPL franchises, Ahmedabad and Lucknow are looking for their respective captains before the mega auction. The aim of these teams will be to build around them by picking quality players from among those who won't be retained in preparation for what could potentially turn out not just an eventful but also profitable season ahead!

Lucknow and Ahmedabad will have the right to pick three players each from non retained pool of cricketers while existing eight teams can retain upto five players ahead of mega auction likely to be held before start of new season.

As per the rules announced by BCCI for this year's player auction, a franchise can retain upto five players with their respective fees aggregating to 60% of the salary purse (Rs 66 crore). The other two players can be picked through the auction.

The decision was taken at the IPL Governing Council meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday, reports PTI quoting BCCI sources.

Ben Stokes

He's injured just before flying back home to take part at IPL 2021 and missed out on playing that season as well due to injury - but now he might have chance for redemption after being released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of their mega auction!
